The danger is density creeping into a big can: drywall that sat through a downpour, plaster, tile, or a few scoops of soil can push a visually half-full 40 past what the truck can legally carry. When any part of the load is dense, split that part into a 20 or a 10 and let the 40 do what it is good at.
