Garage Cleanout Dumpster Rental in Ocala
Garages are the easiest cleanout to start and the one most likely to hit a snag, for a reason nobody expects: a typical Ocala garage contains more prohibited material than the rest of the house combined. Everything else about the job is straightforward. Deal with the shelf above the workbench first and the rest is a pleasant weekend.
The Prohibited List Lives in Your Garage
None of the following can go in a roll-off, and almost every garage has several of them: paint and stain (liquid — fully hardened cans are usually fine), motor oil, transmission and brake fluid, antifreeze, gasoline and diesel including what's in the mower and the spare can, propane cylinders of any size, car and marine batteries, tires, pesticides, herbicides and pool chemicals, solvents, thinners and adhesives, and aerosols. Marion County runs household hazardous waste collection for exactly this material, and our local disposal guide covers where each category goes. Sort those into a box before you start filling the container and the job never stalls.
Why the 15 Yard
Garage contents are bulky and light — boxes, shelving, sports gear, lawn furniture, camping equipment, decades of things that were going to be useful. The 15 yard gives you 20 feet of floor with walls only 3 feet high, which for a job made of awkward armfuls is the difference between a comfortable afternoon and a miserable one. Step up to a 20 yard if the garage is packed floor to ceiling or you're clearing a shed at the same time. Drop to a 10 yard if what's coming out is mostly old tile, concrete or paver stock stored along the back wall.
Work It in Sections, Not All at Once
The method that actually finishes a garage: pull everything from one wall into the driveway, sort it into keep, donate and bin right there, then load the bin pile and put the keepers back before starting the next wall. Emptying the whole garage first produces a driveway you can't walk through and a job that stops halfway. The 14-day rental included in the flat rate exists precisely so you can do this over two weekends rather than one exhausting day.
Scrap Metal Is Worth Pulling Out
Old bikes, appliance shells, steel shelving, aluminum ladders, copper offcuts, cast-iron tools — set metal aside rather than burying it in the container. We pull metal for recycling from loads anyway, but a clean pile separated at the curb is easier for everyone and genuinely keeps material in circulation. The same goes for anything still usable: tools, sports gear and furniture in working order go to local charities if you set them aside.

Rent a DumpsterWhat size dumpster for a garage cleanout?
A 15 yard suits most garages — bulky, light contents and 3-foot walls that make loading armfuls easy. Go to a 20 if the garage is packed floor to ceiling or you're doing a shed at the same time.
Can I put paint in a dumpster?
Not liquid paint. Fully hardened cans are generally acceptable, but wet paint and stain are hazardous. Marion County runs household hazardous waste collection for it — see our local disposal guide for where it goes.
Can I throw away motor oil, gas cans or propane tanks?
None of them. Motor oil, fuels, antifreeze, propane cylinders, car batteries, tires, pesticides and pool chemicals are all prohibited in a roll-off and need household hazardous waste disposal. Sort them out before you start loading.
What about old tires?
Tires can't go in a roll-off anywhere in Florida — they're handled separately by tire retailers and county programs. Set them aside and ask us and we'll point you to the right drop-off.
Should I separate scrap metal?
It helps. We pull metal from loads for recycling anyway, but a clean separated pile is easier and keeps more material in circulation. The same applies to tools and gear still in working order, which local charities will take.
